Interview with Amanda

The first person I interviewed I met very, very unexpectedly. As soon as I arrived in the city, I walked quite aways to Forsyth Park, Savannah’s largest and most iconic park, to check it out and get familiar with the area and the sights it had to offer. Almost immediately after arriving to Savannah, two men and a drag queen named Amanda, approached me. Remember when I said Savannah is an incredibly friendly and social place? As it turns out, they were going around to people in the park and asking if people knew what “gentrification” meant, and they were video recording their responses as a part of their project. So they asked me, and I was horribly upset with myself that I couldn’t quite describe what I thought it meant. Needless to say, I kind of made myself look like an ass. But the three of them, especially Amanda, were so kind- so I asked if I could interview her for my own project.

So I explained to them what my project is, and what sorts of things I was keeping an eye out for in Savannah. Because I so abruptly met these wonderful people, I was rather unprepared to conduct an interview- so this particular interview is rather short. After the interview finished, Amanda invited me to a drag show the following Thursday. I was extremely happy to have her be my first interviewee.
