Meeting Kristin and obtaining an interview with her was quite a doozy, even “serendipitous,” as she called it. Kristin is a business owner and harpist living and performing in Savannah, originally from Michigan, she also helps with running a non-profit organization called Girls on the Run, which helps encourage young girls develop healthy lifestyles and maintain their well-being. Their official page is here.
After talking to Kristin for a while, I gathered that she is a very busy, very social person with a genuine and caring heart. We met after I stopped in at this historic hotel off of Broughton Street (the main strip in Savannah) called The Marshall House- all I was really expecting out of this decision was a way to cool down and get out of the heat, all the while seeing a really cool, supposedly haunted, hotel. As soon as I arrived, someone offered me a glass of wine (which I accepted), and directed me to this great room where a crowd of people were gathered. I was literally swept away. When I finally realized what was happening, I saw a woman playing the harp in the middle of this room- who I would soon find out was Kristin. As soon as I sat on the couch, she stopped playing- the performance finished, literally the moment I got there. Everyone huddled out of the room, and Kristin began breaking down her instrument. We kind of struck up a conversation, and we just kept conversing and conversing.
Kristin is very social, very talkative, and very sweet; so after we vibed well and spoke for 30 minutes, I asked if I could interview her. She was more than happy. After the interview we walked all around Savannah, she told me everything about her life and everything about the city. It was amazing. My mom has always said this, and meeting Kristin made me believe her: you never know what is going to happen or who you’re going to meet in Savannah.
