Tybee Island is the beach-getaway town that the people living in and near Savannah go to. It’s about a 25 minute drive out to the island, through the swamps of Georgia. I’ll be honest, I think maybe my expectations were a little high for this place. I feel like I expected it to be some cute beach town, but really, it looked like any beach town that you’d see in the Florida panhandle. To be fair, I only visited the lighthouse and the beach when I was there, so I didn’t even get a chance to visit the pier or anything close to that.
The lighthouse was beautiful though. It sat on probably three or four acres of land close to the beach, and even had some smaller houses and museums on the same property. Being a fan of lighthouses, I decided to hike up the 127 steps to the top- and it really was an awesome view. The wind felt incredible considering the 95 heat.
